Positive Choices
Who is the service for?
Decision-making can be difficult at the best of times, especially if there are more than a couple of choices and even more so if it is about your health rather than what shoes to buy. When it comes to big choices such as when to start or stop taking antiretroviral medication then the stakes are higher and decision-making can feel like being trapped in a maze.
Our service aims to provide guided support for people who find the whole process of making decisions around treatment difficult. We provide a safe space where the client and practitioner can explore the indecisions and uncertainties that may arise.
We do this by offering:
• Regular sessions – weekly or fortnightly
• The time spent is well spent – our healthcare personnel are trained to help keep the session on track. We feel this is important because sometimes when in difficult situations it is helpful to have structure especially if we become ‘emotionally hijacked’ – we can’t think straight, one minute we decide ‘yes’ and then the next ‘no’ - having someone outside the emotionally charged situation who is caring and skilled is both enormously comforting and helpful.
The overall aim is to work together on coming to the right decision for you.
