Halloween Horror Show raises almost £35,000 for The Sussex Beacon

On Friday 28 October, The Sussex Beacon held a Halloween Horror Show fundraising ball at the Grand Hotel, Brighton raising almost £35,000 for the charity.

The evening was hosted by Duncan James from Blue and had a ‘Circus of Thrills’ theme which combined cabaret, burlesque and circus for an unforgettable night. International cabaret superstar Dolly Rocket was the ring master for the evening and Duncan James was her strapping assistant, in charge of the circus freaks, ghosts and ghouls from the Brighton Academy who entertained guests with music and dancing. Local divas, The Sundaes and Jenna Hall also performed live sets bringing many guests dressed up in Spooktacular Halloween costumes to the dancefloor.

Simon Dowe, Chief Executive of The Sussex Beacon said, “Some of our guests looked truly terrifying, but they were also incredibly generous! We’re delighted with the total raised on the night, boosted by our skillful auctioneer David Hill, which will go towards supporting people living with HIV. We want to thank everyone who attended and the people who worked so hard to make the event spectacular. We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our headline sponsor ‘City Cabs’ together with all our ball partners and guests who made the night such a huge success.”

The Sussex Beacon worked with leading entertainment design agency the E3 Group to produce the fundraising ball, which has been acclaimed by many as the best Halloween Horror Show to date.

Romany Mark Bruce steps down as a Trustee of The Sussex Beacon

After thirteen years’ as a Trustee of The Sussex Beacon, Romany Mark Bruce has stepped down as a Trustee and Vice Chair of the Board following the end of his term of office.

Romany said ‘’It has been a privilege to be a trustee for so many years. The Board has faced many challenges over the years, and I have been fortunate to work with hardworking and motivated fellow trustees. I would in particular like to thank Simon Dowe, Chief Executive for his dedication and inspirational leadership over the last four years”

Simon Dowe CEO The Sussex Beacon says “I would like to thank Romany for his hard work, support and commitment over the years to The Sussex Beacon. He has contributed to the development of The Beacon and played a key role in raising awareness of the organisation and HIV in Brighton. Romany’s enthusiasm and energy will be missed and it is good to know that he will still be a supporter of the charity.”

The local sculptor and artist is looking forward to spending more time on his art work and undertaking exhibitions in America, Australia and Portugal.

The Sussex Beacon Autumn Leaves Fete

We would love to invFeteite you to The Sussex Beacon Autumn Leaves Fete on Saturday 24th September 2016 from 11am – 4pm taking place at The Sussex Beacon.

The Mayor of Brighton and Hove will be attending and will be unveiling our new summerhouse that was very kindly fundraised for by local community organisation Bear Patrol. On the day we will have a range of stalls, refreshments and entertainment alongside the opportunity to view our beautiful garden.

The event is kindly supported by E3 entertainment agency and production company.

The Sussex Beacon at Brighton Pride 2016

On Saturday 6 of August, staff and volunteers of The Sussex Beacon came together to support Brighton Pride and the local community. 

This years float was themed around the Halloween Horror Show – A Spectacular Circus of Thrills, our fundraising ball that is due to take place on October 28, and features none other than the delectable Duncan James! You can find more details here

We had an astonishing response from the crowd as we traveled through the city. It was incredibly warming to see just how many of you support the work we do here at The Sussex Beacon.

We had a fantastic day that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our staff and volunteers, we thank you immensely.
