The Sussex Beacon teams up with Positively UK for Project 100

Mid April saw the first Project 100 training course being run at The Sussex Beacon. Project 100 is an exciting and ambitious accredited training programme being run by Positively UK with the aim of training 1000 people living with HIV nationwide to become peer mentors. We are delighted to be part of this initiative in the South and the first Project 100 training course held at the Beacon brought together 15 men and women from across Brighton and Hove.  The Sussex Beacon has been acting as a hub in the area and participants on the course had the opportunity to share ideas and learn from each other.

It was an engaging and challenging three days and participants responded positively to their experience:

‘I … liked the empowering approach to prepare us to be HIV Peer Mentors’

‘The group responded very well and I personally felt that we learned loads with the group diversity and the resulting exchanges’

‘I gained a breadth of issues and complexities connected to PLWHIV- I first thought I might be mentoring those new to HIV- …but learnt there a wider group I can help’

‘Good mix of people attended- light-hearted facilitation but still purposely-led’.

The Sussex Beacon is hoping to continue to work with Positively UK on this project in the future.
